What We Believe

Perhaps you’ve noticed the church of Christ before. Have you ever taken a moment to consider those words? What does it mean to be the church of Christ? What can you expect when you visit the Finger church of Christ? The Finger church of Christ desires to live up to the description on its sign. We desire to be nothing more and nothing less than the church that belongs to Christ. We, the members, invite you to see whether or not we are identical to the church of Christ found in the New Testament.

Jesus Christ established His church on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2), soon after His ascent into heaven. The church of Christ has no earthly headquarters, and each congregation is organized with elders (also known as overseers and bishops) and deacons (Philippians 1:1, Acts 14:23,1 Timothy 3). The church of Christ believes that Jesus is the Son of God (John 20:30-31). We are convinced that the Bible is the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), being the final authority in doctrine and faith. We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin (Luke 1:26-31); He lived a sinless life (1 John 3:5); He died on the cross, was buried, and was resurrected for the sins of the world (1 Corinthians 15:3-4); and He is coming back to judge the world (Matthew 25:31-46, 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9). The church’s main desire is to please God by following His word as our final authority in our lives. It is our attempt to restore Christianity as it is found in the New Testament. We see that it is God’s plan that all of His believers are one (just as God and Christ are one) and that we have no divisions, being of the same mind and spirit (John 17:21, 1 Corinthians 1:10). We are not interested in man-written creeds because the Bible equips the man of God for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:3). Although there is division throughout the world, we believe religious unity is possible. The only way to obtain unity in Christ is to put aside human traditions and accept only God-inspired patterns. The church of Christ is simply seeking to be the church anyone can read about in the New Testament.
